It all began as a nursing group project on mental health at polytechnic. We were studying depression, and I noticed that young people are particularly vulnerable to it. I thought it would be great if we could create an Instagram page to raise awareness about mental health issues among young people. After the project, the Instagram account was left untouched, so I had an idea. I thought I could make it more useful by sharing more mental health content and stories.
In my second year of nursing, I had the opportunity to have my clinical attachment at the Institute of Mental Health (IMH) Mood Disorders unit. I was surprised to find that most of the patients there were around my age, from 19 to 22, and some older. I got to know a few of them, and I realised that they were all struggling with different mental health challenges, like studying, friendship issues, and relationships. Hearing their stories really inspired me to advocate for them and for those who are struggling.
So, I decided to take the leap and start this journey to help them. I’m sharing of Instagram posts on mental health, hoping to provide motivation and a sense of community for young people who are going through tough times.
Starting this advocacy platform wasn’t always easy, but I’m determined to keep going for my peers.
